Unforgettable LA Night: Love and Rockets Live!
I like what you guys did here, and how you went about it. I'm sure it can be improved, tweaked, etc., but since I've seen Jason's process firsthand, I think it's pretty good for directly comparing sounds in real time. 👍
Great stuff “. I really like how you and Jason did this comparison. I think the only issue I see is that you are using cans. Cans are ok to hear tiny little details but it totally takes away the depth and soundstage. Everything is just in your head with cans. I think true tests are always done with real stereo setup. So it becomes sort of setup dependent. Cans are not all created equal. So, the can test is good but it is really hard to tell if you have a big sound stage and depth. After many listens. I really think the rhino hifi is the definitive audio version for me. Another thing to consider. The DR measurements of the think hi fi has higher DR values. This tells me the original is slightly compressed. Also, carts matter. Some can play the energy and some can’t. This could be part of the difference. Also, I found I can turn up the Rhino way higher without overloading my ears. The vertigo is hotter and think compression definitely employed. Compression is crack for the ears. There is a reason it is employed. Of course the OG has collectible value and is a great listen too. I guess we need all of em 😮.
Valid point.. i did, after the fact, send via bluetooth to my home stereo and listened for a bit but who knows how much that messed with everything as well as the streamyard feed itself.
Not sure how you are able to claim there is no digital step when the USB mixer has 24bit/48Khz converters in its USB output OR you went analog out to the FocusRite which then did the conversion. Either way you have a digital "step", but to each their own methods
Yeah.. after this whole prcoess my audio claims are crap.. I'm just going to stay in my lane and enjoy the music and lyrics the history of it all. I might as well be using a crosley cause that sounds pretty damn good too. I was sure though that #3 on your blind shootout was the Rhino.. :( ua-cam.com/video/ECKHGV6FrR0/v-deo.html I would be interested in hearing a discussion with you and Jason about your different approaches and the pros/cons of it. Thanks for joining in on the dialog. #respect
I own multiple copies I love them all I like WB & Vertico my 2024 Rhino is my current preferred spin the dynamics with dead silent vinyl you can hear more detail bass has been cleaned up Ozzie's vocals are slightly more forward bills drums have more drive tyes bills symbols are rude.. OG is my fav still all said the Rhino is the resolution pressing no denying that the soundstage is vastly different heard on a decent system or headphones 🤔
nice.. thanks for that..
The Australian Fontana pressing will make your testicles tingle. And i hate to break it to ya but if you care about audio quality you're an audiophile. You should have done the comparisons without knowing which copy was playing
I've never heard of the Australian Fontana pressing :) Thanks for commenting.. If you want a good blind shoot out.. go here.. ua-cam.com/video/ECKHGV6FrR0/v-deo.htmlsi=Ph0BRiozseWYeSou
I like the Aussie Fontana too. A buddy turned me on to that one ^jeffmichaelcarney^ @jeffmichaelcarney #jeffmichaelcarney (I don't know if any one of those will work) . Out of the 3 that Chris and Jason compared, I don't know gentlemen, I didn't hear what you heard. I liked the US WLP the best. It had the best low end of the 3, the best foundation, and it's not fatiguing like the Rhino is. I didn't think the UK Vertigo sounds as good as the US WLP. I think it's on the brighter side too ... The Aussie Fontana is darker too. Loved this comparison though. I'll have to look up your (and Jason's) other videos ... 👍👍👍
@@VinylPiper Of course, there are multiple Australian Fontana pressings.
Many thanks Vinyl Piper and company
Thanks Dave.. It was all Jason's doing.. his setup is great for this.. check out his other shootouts.. ua-cam.com/video/LqBYehoY32I/v-deo.htmlsi=5ToS4VmIxYw3qKsi
@VinylPiper absolutely, meant to thank Jason as well.ive been looking for his channel.
I think it’s kind of funny you stated that you’re not an audiophile Isn’t it the audiophiles stressing out over this Black Sabbath Rhino release? Making endless comparisons between all the other pressings they have???
I'm thinking most audiophiles don't like Sabbath but I could be wrong.. I do have to many pressings.. that'll change soon :) I have more Paranoid than I do this self titled..
US vs Rhino, so close, basically the same (only you can buy the Rhino M today.. ticks annoy me). Wizard on the Vertigo sounded better to me overall, perhaps because it's a brighter song so the Rhino's clarity doesn't contribute. But I preferred the Sleeping Village on the Rhino, the clarity added to the song here, I think it was an improvement (even if to the detriment of some low notes). Thanks for putting this together guys, great work
I agree.. it's so close.. splitting hairs.. thanks for watching.
Chris, I was like you. I just kept enjoying the music without paying close enough attention. There weren't any jarring differences which brought me back to reality. Thanks to you and Jason, Chris
I agree.. especially when not comparing they all sound great on their own.
Which UK Vertigo pressing was used for the comparison?
Hi there.. It was this one.. www.discogs.com/release/5453836-Black-Sabbath-Black-Sabbath
Terrific video. IMO, Gilmour's 1978 solo album is the best solo album from members of Pink Floyd. There is not a bad song on this album and it contains one of the best guitar driven songs (e.g., Raise My Rent) in the history of rock music. It's important to note that Gilmour's 1984 solo album (e.g., About Face) is also a quality record with several memorable songs (e.g., Murder, All Lovers Are Deranged, You Know I'm Right, Near The End) that display Gilmour's ability to construct melodic guitar solos.
Thanks man. I do like About Face but i definately prefer his self-titled.
The Rhino sounds a little thin compared to the OG but they both sound good.
I agree.. if you didn't have them side by side and just one coming from your stereo they all sound great..
I think the generational tape loss between an early Vertigo versus the Rhino will play into things too...
Yeah.. i'm curious how much changes the sound...
Cool video thanks Chris. Sucks he would not play Echos, Fuck that shit 😂. Take care 🤘
Echoes is a rick heavy song.. i totally get it.. His shows were great that year even without echoes.. 2006 he played echoes and those were really great!!!
Great Video Chris!! I ended up buying that Promo copy with the lip warp. Hoping I can get it flattened playable. I always thought both of Gilmours solo albums didn’t get near as much credit as they deserved
Thanks JeffersonDD!!!! They definately don't get the credit for sure. Tough to leave the shadow of Pink Floyd.
Amazing🎉❤🎉
Agreed!!!
Well done. I may have heard a track based on those compilations, but otherwise unfamiliar. Thanks, Chris
Thanks Christopher!! I didn’t know too much about these guys either, but definitely knew the name for years.
I once talked to a guy who attended this show with his girlfriend. He was absolutely mesmerized by this 46 minute long version of Playing in the Band, while his girlfriend was bored and walking around.
Please like and subscribe. Let me know if there is a specific album or band from my collection that you would like to see on one of these videos.
Nice video Chris! I have a minty 1969 repress, sounds wonderful. I finally was able to watch the movie on the early years box set. Fairly trippy, even by “Pink Floyd soundtrack” standards:)
i've always love this album.. the movie isn't great but still a fun watch.
Great take on an essential Floyd album. Beautiful records. Thanks for showing. Cheers, Jeff
thanks for watching Jeff.
Great video, Very nice collection of Pink Floyd records. Thanks so much for the shout out!! Have a great weekend..
thanks again for the inspiration. You did that David Gilmour 1st lp anniversary a few weeks ago.. in a couple days the anniversary of the US release is coming.... i'm trying to put something together.
If the song wasn't ruined by the fans, It was certainly ruined by Waters.
yeah.. he was annoyed for sure..
The piper strikes again!!!
it's been a few days since you did your last Acid Archives video.. i'm waiting..
So busy with work but will get one out today :) just for you sir
Prefer the original mono single mix of Baby Blue, without the goofy overdubbed flute and what-have-you. As much as some of the psychy, floaty instrumental tracks are ok, it bugs me that they masquerade under the name 'Chocolate Watchband' when NONE of the band were involved. IIRC, I think either their manger or producer owned the rights to the name, so they could do whatever they liked with it. Shoulda checked the small print, fellas...
Thanks for the comment.. I actually enjoy the flute and the what-have-you but I don't think I have heard the Mono 7" cut. I'll have to look for that.
@@VinylPiper allow me! It's the same basic take but without the dubs and a stronger (IMO) mono mix. ua-cam.com/video/aAr2yr8Q9JE/v-deo.htmlsi=I8OFGxzJRSSqJwW9

Thank you. I’m very glad this thread got started. I’ve been turned onto so many bands I’ve never heard of.
Good one, which is the better of those Daily Flash albums?
Definitely pick up that latest 2023 release. The track sound better and there’s many more of them plus its cheaper!
Those poor Oompa Loompas! They are already short as it is 🤣
I was going to put the rhino black sabbath but it hadn't arrive then.
@@VinylPiper haha. join the club!
Nice collection! I have similar-stereo and mono WLP versions, both with the 'Posturos' misspelling. Obvs a mono stock would be nice-a friend in Austin got one super-cheap, cos the store he worked in thought it was a boot, ha-ha!! Ever seen "Levitation" on 45 with the old green/yellow label layout? Seems to be about as rare as the mono stock LP. Likewise, "Slip Inside This House" on the then-new yellow 'globe' label design.
Hi there.. thanks for the comment. I have not seen those versions of those singles.. thanks for bringing the rare versions on my radar. anther thing I can obsess with :)
Nice finds! Congrats :)
thank you. I just watched your video on Relatively Clean River.. nice job.. I've had the reissue for awhile but haven't opened it yet.. opening now :)

Hey Chris, thanks for the deep dive on Peruvian Psyche! Lots of info and listening to do from here. BTW, looks like your cans are Grados? I have a similar pair RS2i. I use them when the boss has to work. Cheers!
Hey there.. yes.. love my headphones..
Laghonia's Etcetera is on my shelves too as well as Traffic Sound's Virgin which might be their best. Also have an album by Los Shain's and one double compilation on Peruvian rock. Anyway, congrats for the amazing stuff you have form South America and Mexico. Cheers, Nelio.
Hi Nelio.. I love Traffic Sound.. I have a Peruvian OG of Lux & their 1970 self-titled and reissues of Virgin & A Bailar Go-Go. I think you are right about Virgin being their best. I love Los Shain's too.. dying to get my hands on an original Docena 3 from 1968. I have an original St. Thomas Pepper Smelter from 1969.. nice short cover of In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida.
@@VinylPiper St. Thomas Pepper Smelter is on my want list too. But I may be happy with a reissue.
Although mainly a Peruvian themed stream, if you are going to watch/listen to one thing.. listen to the last song of the stream. 01:25:07 Playing 'Lost In My World' from Dug Dug's 1st LP (1971) An amazing Mexican Rock/Psych track!!!!

Nice!! I love David Bowie. I’ve got a bunch of bootlegs and I’m probably getting rid of some if you’re interested in bootlegs.
Please like and subscribe and comment and ding the bell, or not.
Was there a race to the wall or pretty orderly? I was there two weeks ago. Nice haul. 👍🏻
It was orderly.. just a quick, brisk jaunt from the front door to the lp cover that I had my targets set on. Once the door opens you have a second to scan the front wall or you get passed. Record Store Day gets a bit crazy and people sprint but I've learned a small handful of marbles slow them down for just the right amount of time.
